Everything about it, from the stunning glistening aquamarine jewel like bottle to the pretty golden net atop a clear glass just looked like something a mermaid assembled from precious gems and sea glass she found decorating the depths of the Ocean.

But the price, along with the sad tale of discontinuation and possible reformulating, put me off purchasing this, like a "price upon request" diamond necklace in a jewelry shop window, teasing me from afar. I thought my love for this gem would forever be unrequited, but perhaps the magic of Christmas is real after all.

For this Christmas the wonderful, magical godmother of perfume decided to send me a generous decant of this precious perfume (who ever my Secret Santa may be this year, THANK YOU, it's crazy how much I wanted this, and to add to the magic, this perfume's precious liquid is as luminous as that ocean- treasure like bottle.) For L de Lolita Lempicka is a gingerbread house topped with vanilla bourbon icing, the bergamot, immortelle and sandlewood perfectly balancing out the vanilla and tonka bean sweetness. Cinnamon gives it an extra kick, and warm musk rounds out this perfume beautifully. It reminds me of my favorite starbucks Christmas latte, gingerbread, with vanilla whipped cream topped with cinnamon. Yum. As gourmands and oriental vanilla's are my favorite category of scent this time of year (Fall through Winter.) This could not have arrived at a better time, especially as I'm moving from sunny South Florida to chilly NYC next month.

Though this is beautiful enough to be worn in any weather, as it simply melts into the skin, the composition to me screams of winter and Christmas, sipping hot mulled wine by an open fire, toasting marshmellows and making smores, Winter Wonderland in London through to fireworks on New Years eve. There is a book called Love in the time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block that I just finished reading, and this perfume is something I can imagine the siren's of LA wearing as they lure their suitors ever closer, seducing them with their long lustrous tresses, there jewels, this perfume wafting out as they sing a melodic harmony of seduction. For L is a true chameleon, much like a Siren itself, comforting in its beauty and lullaby, but dangerous in its cost and rarity. I want to treasure this decant and use it sparingly, but its so beautiful I just know that like an enchanted sailor I will desire more and more, and will probably have to hunt far and wide until I manage to snare another in my net.
