Artists create trash- filled popsicles from polluted water. In order to make a point about the current state of the environment, three art students created a line of popsicles filled with actual pollution, and the resulting contrast between the sweet treat and the filthy water is shocking. Hung I- chen, Guo Yi- hui, and Cheng Yu- ti are all students at National Taiwan University of Arts, located in Tai Pei. While pollution is an issue of great importance on a global scale, it is particularly pressing in Taiwan, where urbanization has spiked from 2. This shift in the country has led to specific environmental concerns - ones that these students hoped to highlight by creating a series called Polluted Water Popsicles using real water samples from more than 1.

Scroll down for video. Not what it seems: Polluted Water Popsicles are actual samples of water from 1. Taiwan, frozen to look like a tasty treat.

The message: The project, created by three students from National Taiwan University of Arts, was created to raise awareness about the environment. The water samples collected were relatively small - a video on the project's Facebook page shows the team using just an average water bottle to get their sample - making it all the more disturbing to see what as found in such a minuscule selection.

After freezing the original water samples into popsicle form, the team recreated the 'treats' using a clear polyester resin so as to maintain the appearance of the polluted water in a material that wouldn't melt (or smell). The team also created colorful wrappers for each popsicle, labeled with the name of the water source it pairs with. The result is something eye- catching, and even possibly tasty, at first glance. Yet, a closer inspection reveals that these popsicles are far from edible - they're actually loaded with cellophane wrappers, bottle caps, and speckles of sewage. Disturbing: The popsicles are severely discolored, and contain a plethora of plastic scraps and sewage. Recreating: After creating the original popsicles, the artists used a resin to remake the trash- filled treats in their entirety.

Award- winning: Thus far, the Polluted Water Popsicle design team has taken home the prestigious Young Pin Design Award, in addition to other honors. Don't be fooled into thinking that the popsicle shades indicate flavors like watermelon and grape - the bright yellows, sickly pinks, and eerie green colors are all reflective of the discoloration caused by pollution. Grey`S Season 10 Episode 20. It's difficult - and scary - to fathom what could turn a clear water source into a dark purple pool. Water pollution is not an issue unique to Taiwan. Research from the Pacific Institute states that, each day, more than two million tons of sewage is dumped into the world's water.

In addition to posing health risks to humans, water pollution has severe, long- term consequences for the environment's many ecosystems. Thus far, the artists behind Polluted Water Popsicles are succeeding in their goal of raising awareness about this issue. Their project was recently awarded the prestigious Young Pin Design Award in addition to being exhibited at the Tai Pei World Trade Center in May.  That's a wrap: The design team created colorful wrappers to pair with each popsicle, and labeled the wrapper with the popsicle's water source. A global crisis: The project may highlight Taiwan, but it's indicative of a larger, worldwide problem. The statistics: According to research, more than two million tons of sewage and waste are dumped into the world's water resources every day.
